Our mission at A Mind of Magic and Reason is to guide students in seeing the magic of the world around them while discovering ways to reason through it.
Meet Our Founder
Hi, I’m April Simmons, the founder of A Mind of Magic and Reason in Tucson, AZ. After spending 10 years as a public educator, I witnessed firsthand the growing cracks in the traditional school system. I kept hoping for change, but as pressures on students and teachers reached an all-time high—especially after COVID—it became clear that my path lay elsewhere.
The turning point came when a few parents of former students jokingly suggested I homeschool their children. That spark of curiosity led me on a transformative journey into alternative education models. Through KaiPod Catalyst’s program, I gained the tools and confidence to launch my own micro school, and in Fall 2025, A Mind of Magic and Reason officially opened its doors.
I’m beyond excited to step into the role of a Sage—not just as an educator, but as a guide, mentor, and fellow explorer alongside our Seekers. Here, we’re building more than a school; we’re creating a vibrant community where curiosity thrives, mistakes are part of the learning process, and every child’s unique journey is honored. I am so excited to embark on this adventure with you!.

Hi, My name is April and I will serve as the Lead Sage for our multi-age program. My focus will be on grades 3-8. With 10 years of experience in public education, a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, I am deeply committed to fostering a dynamic and supportive learning environment for all students. I look forward to working with our seekers to build knowledge and discover the magic that lives in the world around us. We will work hard, make mistakes, learn from them, and have a lot of fun along the way. Ariana Warsco-Harrington
Hi! My name is Ariana. I will serve as a sage for our multi-age program. My focus will be on grades K-2. I have been a public school educator for 7 years. During those years, I witnessed children having to rush through their education, move on with gaps, form dislike of school because of this immense pressure put on their shoulders at a young age. That’s why I am excited to leave a system that cares more about test scores than true learning and jump into this new role and learning environment! I can’t wait to work along side each child to help guide them through their own unique journey where mistakes are welcomed and addressed. Where we light that spark of curiosity and foster a true love of learning!
